Have you all noticed that their account transfer scheme uses a stupid .exe
file? My neighbors have a house full of Macintoshes and nothing else, so
they were screwed trying to transfer their email stuff over; available to
Windows only, sorry... What a bunch of bozos.

Then, when you look at their email support page, it refers to no other client
than Outlook or Outlook Express. Nothing on their entire site mentions
anything about OS X, Linux, Firefox, Opera or anthing. Nothing but
Microsoft. These people are loosers.

For John and others with huge bandwidth slowdowns, here's what happened to
me: I noticed after my IP number changed from the usual cox IP's to the
newer 71.xx.xx.xx series for Suddnenlink, that I started getting total loss
of communication between my cable modem and the Suddenlink gateway. I would
have to reboot my modem, not my router, to get service back, and then as I
monitored data rate, it would go from normal speeds and slow down, until it
eventually would stall altogether. In the end, it got so bad that I could
only get about 5 minutes of service between reboots but for a long time it
would last several days with decaying speeds.

I logged 2 phone complaints with Suddenlink with no response physically from
a service person, so I sent a request through their support website,
specifically requesting a business address, and specified to them that I
needed it so that I could formally lodge a complaint to the California Better
Business Bureau for false advertising on television and radio with their cute
little clueless zero dude talking about his "crazy fast internet" crap. I
concurrently made the same request on their "live chat support" website form,
and then I made a phone call to their 877 443 3127 number. I requested help
in fixing my internet access problems, and the lady quickly said "let me look
at your account". After about 90 seconds, she came back with one sentence to
me. "We'll be out there in about 1 hour sir". I said "Thank you very much"
and the guy showed up in 30 minutes. He went through my system that has 2
WinXP's, 2 OS X macs (one is an intel Mac), and 3 Linux boxes with a DD-WRT
Linux WRT54GL router, and the old Motorla Cyber Surfer modem. After testing
signal strength and his ability to communicated with the gateway with his
test equipment, he brought in a Toshiba cable modem which was failed out of
the box, and then he brought in one more Toshiba cable modem which worked
well and fixed my problem. It's been fine ever since.

I think Suddenlink is saddled with a big problem right now. The guy who came
here said that Suddenlink's servers are having trouble reliably communicating
with the Motorola cable modems. He replaced mine free of charge, which I
thought was unusual since I bought and owned my Motorola modem free and
clear. I think they are putting out fires all over the place with these
ancient Cyber Surfer and Wave modems. He said we are the only place in the
country that still has these boat anchors. Anyway, if you are experiencing
data slowdowns and stallouts, and you have one of these Motorola boat
anchors, you might need to upgrade. There is a list of acceptable modems on
the suddenlink site, or if you threaten to complain to the Better Business
Bureau like I did, they might give you one free of charge.
