No, the threads are messed up, not the way people REPLY TO THEM.  It only 
happens with this list.  All the other lists work properly:
MESSAGE ONE
REPLAY TO MESSAGE ONE
ANOTHER REPLY TO MESSAGE ONE

etc etc.

This list works backwards:

LAST REPLY TO MESSAGE ONE
FIRST REPLY TO MESSAGE ONE
UNRELATED MESSAGE
ANOTHER UNRELATED MESSAGE
MESSAGE ONE


Other lists I receive are Debian-user, Debian-ham, and jnos.

Seems odd.  I have to dig down to find the original message and then read 
through my folder in reverse.
