IMHO the host factor only comes into play if the host has a high enough mrem count to actually be near their harmful point. see: http://www.nsc.org/resources/issues/rad/exposure.aspx

now if we take 56mrems a year (from space and the air/ground). Then we look at exposure to a CRT (obviously much worse then the same size LCD monitor) your looking at .1 mrem a year added to your 56 mrems for 56.1 mrems. Then we add *40* mrems for eating and drinking for 96mrems.

I hope everyone sees the point... your issue is not with the .1 (in the extreme case) but with the 96!!!!!! That .1 might take you over the edge but you were going over anyway.

Cheers,
Patrick

Good point. The host factor. Host resistance or tolerance vs. susceptibility. If you want to get paranoid, try applying an epigenetic overlay. Sins of the father and all that. Just because an effect is not measureable in the subject, doesn't mean it won't show up in the grandkids. Scary. Even if we feel we can be cavalier about our own health, we need to consider multi-generational consequences.

Hello everyone. An issue not yet addressed is that there could very well be quite a difference between one person's tolerance of the radiation and another persons. It is this way with many of the things in this world. Minerva Williams

Hi all,

I think we need to all step back for a moment and remember where this
question came from. Tim's clients tend to be non-techies, some
severely so. It's very likely that the parent heard that monitors
emit radiation, but doesn't know the difference between CRTs and LCDs.
Simply explaining the difference between the two types should be
enough to calm the parent's fears. The rest of the stuff about
psuedo-science, while a genuine concern, is probably not the issue
here.
