OK, I think I know another piece of the puzzle about what has been
happening here (and I'm sorry I didn't e-mail sooner, but I was
swamped with departmental paperwork that ate all my time over the
weekend).
The e-mails bounced because majordomo thought they contained an
administrative command --
the Subject: line of the BOUNCE was:
Subject: BOUNCE linux@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx: Admin request of
type /\bcancel\b/i at line 4
The really-reasonable message:
My HP laptop is about 3-4 years old now. I've just started to notice
that
when I flip up the lid or cancel the blank screen saver, it takes
about 30 <--- I think it is the word cancel on this line
seconds or so before it reaches full back light. Is this normal?
Dan -- is there a way for majordomo *not* to think that a word like
cancel in the body of a message means a command?
This happens just occasionally from time to time, and I'll be
fascinated to see if this message itself bounces for the list CC:
because it contains that word...
Thanks,

ACK, you mean to this list, Jaye? (Great, I've busted it again).
Do you
actually get a bounce? If so, could you forward it to me so I can
see what
I've broken now?

Something is blocking my first post (I've sent it three times now)
Dan, it didn't even bounce (it never has afaik). I just went to the
server
and was squished. I'll send you the damn email directly to you and
you can
try it!
